The Ten Ways - Emotions
Anything that works on feelings comes into this category. Traditionally it is the category that sells jewellery and cars, but there is no rule that says it can't sell books too.
In using emotion you have to use the theme all the way through from the start - which means the headline, the text, the PS, the design, and the whole campaign. Consider these headlines.
Encouraging reading is so much easier when the children love the books you give them.
What does it say of your commitment to literacy if you always buy the cheapest books?
The sinking feeling, the rising feeling, the feeling can do it all
Do your pupils believe in love at first sight?
Openers like this all lead into an interesting new world of emotion in selling. None of them speak of the content or the book's title - instead they speak of the emotional link between you the books and the children. To give an example in a little more detail
Do your pupils believe in love at first sight?
Children react to books in many ways - a book on The History of Western Music might stimulate the already excited one or two, but for most that title probably doesn't make them want to leap forth and read.
Which is why we consider every aspect of our books, from the title to the chapter headers, from the layout of each page to the illustrations, from the point of view of the reader. We want all our readers to open the book at any page and be so taken by what they see they can't stop reading.....
